The first time the Doctor saw Jenny, he assumed she was a miracle, even though he usually did not believe in such things. Her soft red hair was filled with curls, and her mossy green eyes stared at him as if he were the most interesting creature in all the universe, small shell lips turned up at the corners. She was one of those few born with a smile on their mouths, but it was the Doctor who knew she had to be the most interesting creature in all the universe. Which was why the first words out of his mouth as he took her small, slender hands in his one big one were "Being very rusty at this sort of thing, you may forgive me if a very old man tears up at seeing something so strange and so beautiful."

He'd almost missed meeting her for the first time for the first time. While travelling alone one day, he happened upon an old home atop a hill. It was beautiful and quaint. The Doctor was drawn to it, perhaps a gentle urging by the TARDIS in bringing him to that hill. He'd had a lot on his mind lately, a nervous preoccupation that filled him with joy and tremendous anxiety. Finally he plucked up the courage to open the old wooden door and step inside.

The inside was long abandoned, but there, on the wall, was a curious piece of writing. The Doctor stepped forward and frowned, nervously hooking his thumbs through his suspenders as he read the shaky handwriting. Then he blanched and turned, running back toward the TARDIS. Though he knew he had all the time in the universe to reach his destination, he couldn't help but be terrified of the prospect of missing the coordinates written there with the simple message. He hopped through the police box doors and began flipping switches, turning knobs, and zigzagging zigzaggers. He knew exactly what it meant.

Hello, Sweetie. You'd better hurry this time or you'll miss her.

The doors of the TARDIS flew inward as the Doctor threw them open, striding out to find River Song waiting for him. Her arms were crossed and she was sitting up in a large ornate bed, in a younger version of the very house the Doctor had found his message in. Her huge mass of springy hair was matted down, and she looked tired. Glancing outside, it could clearly be seen to be the middle of the night.

"Well, dear, once again you manage to be spectacularly late." At his crestfallen face, she smiled a little. "You're in the other room right now, I wouldn't risk showing up at this time. Go back to…" She turned and looked at a clock next to her bed, "three hours and forty-seven minutes ago?" The Doctor opened his mouth to speak, but they both could hear approaching footsteps, so River just waved her hands at him. "Go now." He nodded, turned, and reset the TARDIS dates for that time. Then he let her fly.

This time when he opened the TARDIS doors, he met a completely different scene. A pained scream filled the air. Well, she had once told him she was quite the screamer. But that was beside the point as the Doctor rushed into the other room.

"It's about time! I wrote that message hours ago! What took you so long?" River looked up at him with irritation and pain from where she knelt against a dark sofa. Flustered, the Doctor went to her side and helped her up, wary of her balance.

"How is she?" he asked worriedly, holding her close. River rolled her eyes and huffed.

"How is she? Is she okay? What's she doing? Doctor, I swear, sometimes I think you care more for her than you do me. And we're supposed to be married."

"And you're supposed to be in jail, but I broke you out and hid you because of this. Why are you in this house?" He was looking around, mind on a thousand things at once. River chuckled a little.

"You bought it for me. I suppose you haven't done that yet, have you? Have to go and fix that soon, then. It'd be a pity if she didn't arrive here- nnng!" River doubled over, and the Doctor gripped her arms to keep her steady. His eyes flickered back to the couch and he sat her down. River leaned against him wearily as the Doctor nearly tangled his hand in her hair smoothing it back. She tugged his suspenders, groaning. He could hardly believe it. He's spent all that time with her, and even still he could hardly believe it.

He was going to be a father. Again.

As River Song rocked on the couch in an attempt to ease the pain, the Doctor's memories drifted back all that time and space ago to when he'd found out. When all the universe had changed.

After leaving yet another message, River wearily returned to her cell.  The Doctor had to know. He had to know he'd been right. She couldn't stay here, no matter how truly guilty she was. She had to tell him. Placing her face in her hands, she wept until she heard that nauseatingly telltale sound. She didn't look up until after a sonicing sound and the click of that ridiculous lock. Then his arms were around her.

"You left me a message. You said it was about life. I was curious after noticing you didn't mention death. Was there a particular reason?" When she looked up at him, his mossy hazel eyes were searching hers, looking for an answer he would never find on his own. She had to tell him. There was no beating around the bush with him, he'd have a hard enough time understanding even with the answer right in front of him.

"I'm pregnant, Doctor." She put her hands to his face, forcing him to look at her. He blinked.

"With…?" He was staring at her, waiting for an answer, though it looked like it wouldn't be the one he expected.

"A baby." The Doctor pursed his lips, still not connecting the dots.

"And this baby would be…?"

"Yours, you dunce." He laughed nervously, running a hand through his thick brown hair.

"Oh. Oh! And here I was worrying about a slew of kittens!" He was chuckling, then slowly his eyes grew serious. "What do you mean, mine? How can it be mine?" River sighed, fighting back the imminent nausea.

"You know, Doctor. You must know. You asked me if I wanted to have children with you." She smiled wistfully. "I said yes. I didn't expect it this soon, but here we are, five weeks into a child." The Doctor's brow furrowed. He'd never asked that sort of thing. But then… He didn't think it was the time to bring that up. She was happy, and he liked her that way. He knew full well that he was avoiding thinking about what was happening, but he didn't particularly care at the moment. Then River pulled away from him violently and threw up in the corner of the cell, and it crashed back. He was going to be a father.

Again.
I've decided to make this a collaboration between me and my boyfriend, :icontimelordinabox:. :3 Please let us know what you think! <3
